What kids activities for this Fall have you planned? Here are a few ideas to fight off boredom!by Silvia Ivanova
With the end of the summer everyone is preparing their children to go back to school and getting ready for the cooler fall season. However, we are also back to the never-ending problem of entertaining ourselves and our children, and what's more important - having quality time together. Here are a few reminders and ideas for activities with your children this Fall. 1. With more rainy days on the way, there are many different board games available for children of different ages: Monopoly, Cranium, different brain-teasers, etc. Surely you had a favorite board game when you where a child and what better way to have fun with your child/ren than teach them that game and playing it together. 2. Another favorite activity for children is watching and/or helping you with your hobby. My most cherished memories with my father are the times when he would gather us with my brother to help him build motors, machines, even creating crafty wooden plates. When we were younger we just stayed close by to bring him the instruments, when a little older he explained and let us try. It was a great way to get to know him better, before he died. 3. The fall is a beautiful season with the leaves changing color. An all time favorite for younger children is collecting different kinds of leaves and making a small herbarium. It's a great activity when walking in the park and children would have the opportunity to learn to recognize the different trees and their names. 4. Even one hour will be enough for a made-up story and pretend play, if you have more time even better. Not much imagination is required from you. All you need to do is take your child's favorite hero and take the hero and your child to an entirely new and exciting journey in the jungle, for example, or a trip under the ocean, an adventure among the stars. You can meet pirates - even Jack Sparrow from the famous "Pirates of the Caribbean"; you can meet strange made-up creatures and name them, become friends or run away from them. Ideas for such stories and pretend plays are all around you. 5. If it isn't raining the weather will still be nice enough for bike rides; just make sure you don't forget those jackets. 6. Walks in the park are a great way to relax and enjoy the magical scenery of the changing seasons. 7. In the fall season the winds not only get cooler, but can also get stronger. So, while walking in the park why not get those kites out. You can even make a little competition between yourselves to see who will keep the kite longer in the air and higher in the sky. Those are just a few ideas, but you can use your imagination to have fun and do what we all as parents do - teach our children, but the fun way. Make the best out of these opportunities to teach your children about the things you like and enjoy. Have a great and colorful Fall season! We would like to hear about your ideas and favorite activities with your kid(s). We might even add some of them to this page, so don't be shy, e-mail us at: silvia@mfuniverse.com.
