Recipe Submissions Guidelines

If you have a favorite recipe and would like to share it with us then you've come to the right place. We will be very glad to put it in our Recipe pages and we are certain all the families out there who are looking for new meal and snacks ideas will be thankful to you.

Please, follow the guidelines listed below when writing your recipe and please, note that before we upload your recipe on My Family's Universe website, we might edit parts of it for clarity and/or to meet our standard.

  1. Please, put all ingredients and directions for preparation under the respective sections;
  2. Do not use abbreviations, even when listing ingredients. For example, write "1 teaspoon", instead of "1tsp.";
  3. State the measurements of all ingredient, except salt, black pepper and other spices (state those too, if greater or smaller amount is required than normal);
  4. Make sure you put all the steps required for the preparation;
  5. Write any tips on serving, presentation, variations and preservation of the dish;
  6. Proofread for misspelled words, unclear sentences and edit for clarity.
  7. Once you've done all of the above copy and paste the recipe in the body of the message and e-mail* it to: submit@mfuniverse.com. Please, include your first and last name.

If you wish to personalize your recipe you could include a short story of about 50 to 250 words on how you got the recipe. If the story is longer than 250 words we would have to edit it (of course, we could make exception of up to 25-50 words, depending on the size of the recipe).

You might, also, wish to send us a picture of the dish. You could do this as long as you take the picture under strong light, the meal is centered and presentably set, the image is not blurry and it is less than 500kb in size. Send any pictures along with the recipe as an attachment.

Here are a few tips on photographing your meal if you decide to send us a picture:

  • take the picture if possible under natural light cinditions and always use your flash, but be careful to be at least two feet away from the subject and use the zoom to get a close-up;
  • centre the plate on your camera's screen;
  • shoot the picture at about 45-60 degrees;
  • take at least ten shots;
  • take pictures with 2-3 variations in the positioning of the plate, so you could compare later which one best complements the dish or you which one you like best.

* Your e-mail address will only be used to contact you if we would need to clarify any of the information on the recipe or the story you submit. We would not use your e-mail address in any other way, unless allowed by you and would not sell it to other parties. For more information, please, read our Privacy Policy.
